![]() ![]() This is the most comprehensive flight simulator available to consumers, and it models everything from radio-controlled airplanes to jumbo jets to the space shuttle. What other simulator lets you land the space shuttle?įlight Simulator 2004 came with a lot of planes, but it can't touch the variety offered by X-Plane. This labor of love is now in its eighth commercial iteration, and while other sims have come and gone, X-Plane is the only one still flying high as a potential alternative to Flight Simulator. Whereas Flight Simulator is designed by a huge team working with an enormous budget for one of the biggest companies in the world, X-Plane is largely designed by one person, on a relatively miniscule budget, who's working for himself. With it you can see from another computer where your are currently flying including all kinds of map data.X-Plane 8 may be Flight Simulator 2004's biggest competition, but the two products are about as far apart as you can get. Here is another plane that should be payware but is free Īnd not least many great tools like littlenavmap that are integrating into a very professional flight simulator environment. Both extremely nice though I find them struggling with fps a bit. Then you also have the free airliners ZIBO and the lesser know 737- 900Ultimate. Spain UHD requires 450 Gb of hard disk space but is imo the best looking scenery right now - completely free (if you are willing to run your computer overnight for a week to do all the downloads) There is a lot of other photscenery but imo it cannot hold a candle to those 2. I also recommend to get Spain UHD right away. And there are many upgrades to it like a PBR cockpit and much more that make it even better It has received a fmod upgrade that gives it one of the best sounds in the game - payware included. There is a ton of free content that you still need to explore and a lot of it is high quality. Payware is nice but if you just bought the game payware is not the first topic to get into. The stock game looks extremely dull, but with the right upgrades it becomes a real treat. You don't need to buy anything, but you will need to do a LOT of downloads. and, over all, its quite fantastic at what it does. its far to early to tell and the predictions made by many are just hate mongers, trolls and fanboys from both sides. My extremely long fight simming advice would be to ignore the troll.Īs for that new product far into the future thats named after the old namesake. he ignores the zibo, cessna, or the rest. but this is the same guy that said you HAVE to buy planes to have realism. All for a small phenominal fee.įor those who think the scenery isnt emmersive enough. They are just beggers with a cardboard sign trying to make a buck off you at present and lag your system out for almost no better improvement. The sky and weather 'addons' you can buy, since the update, are a waste of time until they improve them. the sim honestly doesnt need nor require any of it. Wait and get them on sale IF you want any at all. most of them are not needed at all and only bloat the software. Unfortunately most (generally speaking) of the adddons for xplane charge about twice as much as they should. caranado for example, charges about twice as much as their aircraft are worth, but thats my opinion. I only will buy a plane if its worthwhile price. I prefer addons that cover entire areas of the globe or i wont even look at them. p[lenty of good ones in the sim already for me to use im content with. addin pushback and the other free mods and your happening. however for passenger liner i use the freeware zibo 737-800 which slams down the gauntlet on everyone else. the question was originally asked about addon aircraft and airports. or is xp default a minimallized experience. That said i DO expect it to continue to get better. I have only one great dislike for xplane and its the horrible ATC. The scenery and weather etc isnt remotely as bad as someone else mentioned here.Īlmost everything knocks it out of the park in the comparison. Xp11 improved things enough for me to warrant the change over. If you wantt to keep using that poor old thing go for it. I dont want this to be another fsx versus xp thing. but not as mixed as you might think.Īs a previous huge ms fs guy who goes back sicne version2 in 1986 to fsx until this last year. ![]()
